Women and Climate Change

November 29, 2009

Women bear the disproportionate burden of climate change, but have so far been largely overlooked in the debate about how to address the problem, concludes UNFPA’s State of the World Population report launched last week.  The report argues that the international community’s fight against climate change is more likely to be successful if policies, programmes and treaties take into account the needs, rights and potential of women.  The important message of women as agents of positive change will hopefully also reach leaders meeting in Copenhagen in mid-December.

As the conference approaches, a number of social web initiatives are also seeking to re-focus leader attentions.. one good examples is the Wave, – a huge climate change rally taking place on the 5th of December in London.  We’ll cover and analyse this and other online initiatives over the next few weeks and during the COP15.
