Social media fundraiser

October 19, 2009

The weekend’s ‘beat cancer’ social media fundraiser has so far resulted in more than 200,000 tweets.  The campaign idea is very straight forward, four cancer charities are aiming for a world record in social media mentions and for every tweet, Facebook status update, or blog post containing the #beatcancer hashtag, eBay, PayPal and MillerCoors donate 1 cent to cancer research…   The initiative is raising much needed funds, however, ‘tweet-a-thon’ styled pushes are peaking and lowered interest among social media enthusiast will surely soon start to show.  What’s now needed is a new twist, a new way of using these tools in order to keep engaging online communities eager to help.
