Social Media is Changing History

June 17, 2009

The action unfolding in Iran demonstrate how social media enables ordinary people to impact on real-world events.  This is perhaps the first revolution that has been catapulted onto a global stage and transformed by tools like Twitter, mobiles, the web … users throughout the world are not only listening but responding: they’re engaging with individual participants, they’re passing on their messages to friends, and they’re even providing detailed instructions to enable web proxies that allow Internet access that the Iranian authorities can’t immediately censor.

With these on-going events in mind, TED has rushed to release this video of a recent talk by NYU professor Clay Shirky to demonstrate just how these new tools are changing history.. this video should be shared as widely as possible!
