Safe Birth. Even Here.

September 24, 2012

Today we launch our latest social media campaign:  Safe birth. Even here.

Nowhere in the world is the risk of dying in childbirth greater than in a refugee or crises setting, where one in five women are pregnant.  Mothers and babies are cut off from health care and exposed to trauma, malnutrition, disease and violence – putting their lives in great danger.  Yet their needs are often overlooked.

Hence , today UNFPA launches a social media campaign (designed and produced by us!) to raise awareness of the urgent needs of pregnant women in emergencies.  Through he campaign, field staff and midwives will be reporting on safe deliveries from five refugee camps and crises settings.  Campaign participants will be able to share the good news of a safe birth, send a message of support to the family and midwife as well as donate a life-saving 3 dollar birthing kit.  Excited to see how the campaign is received across the globe!

Here is also our first reported safe delivery: Syrian refugees Rania with her mother, she was born in Yemen on the 17 September!
