Focus on world hunger

October 20, 2009

FAO estimates that the number of undernourished people will pass the one billion mark in 2009, making it one of the most critical current humanitarian issues. Last week, world hunger was the focus of three events – How to Feed the World in 2050 Forum, Committee on World Food Security and World Food Day . The events are paving the way for the World Summit on Food Security starting on the 16 November in Rome. While the issue has achieved some profiling through traditional media, dialogue on food security has been fairly absent in social media. This is once again an issue that could benefit greatly from wider exposure online in order to increase political pressure, media coverage and public support before the November summit.

Below is also FAO’s video for World Food Day, it’s informative but unfortunately the official and technical tone/script make it difficult for the viewer to engage with the video’s important message.
